Patent Demonstrates Interwoven's Continued Technology Leadership
SUNNYVALE, Calif. – September 14, 2004 – Interwoven, Inc. (Nasdaq: IWOV), provider of Enterprise Content Management (ECM) solutions for business, has been issued a U.S. Patent for the core technology used for content-based image search within its Digital Asset Management product, MediaBin Asset Server which enables organizations to reduce time-to-market for product launches, enforce brand consistency and reduce costs. The newly patented technology helps to better manage and locate image content in support of marketing content creation and distribution. The granting of the patent validates Interwoven’s leadership and reflects its continued innovation in the fast-growing Marketing Content Management (MCM) arena.
Digital Asset Management systems play a key role in the MCM solution by enabling companies to effectively manage and deploy digital assets such as images, video, flash, power point and graphics throughout the marketing content supply chain. Interwoven launched the industry’s first suite of truly effective solutions for marketing departments, which provides customers with a more efficient way to create, manage, distribute, and publish marketing content. At the heart of this MCM solution is Interwoven’s digital asset management product, which is used by marketing teams across the globe.
Interwoven’s U.S. patent #6,697,532 is for the company’s unique “System and Method for Producing Descriptors for Image Compression.” The patented technology enables Interwoven users to search for images by shape, texture, color, or resemblance to another image, using compact visual image summary data that can be searched and sorted using a conventional database, including products from Microsoft and Oracle, for greater speed and scalability. By making it simple to find photos and images of the specific color and composition desired for a given application, the technology supports the creative process while maximizing the utility of a company’s digital assets. Companies such as Thomas Kinkade, Walt Disney International, Herbalife and Ventura Foods already rely on the technology, offering further proof of the innovation and success of Interwoven’s MCM solution.
“The granting of this patent validates our technology leadership in the Marketing Content Management market and protects the intellectual property behind our successful Digital Asset Management for the enterprise,” said Rafiq Mohammadi, CTO for Interwoven. “We will continue to build on the innovation and investment this technology represents to deliver the robust MCM solutions our customers require.”
