TeamSite to Support Tesco.com Infrastructure Enabling Wide Scope
of Users to Upload and Update Information on Groceries and Deals with Greater
Speed and Efficiency
SUNNYVALE, Calif. July 27, 2000 - Interwoven, Inc.(Nasdaq: IWOV), the leading
provider of enterprise-class content management software, announced today that
the supermarket chain, Tesco, has chosen Interwoven TeamSite software to manage
content for its award-winning Tesco online ( http://www.tesco.com )
site in the UK. Tesco online is the world's largest online grocer with more
than 20,000 products available online and over 450,000 registered users for
shopping and home delivery, bringing in over 5 million hits a week. TeamSite
will be managing content across Tesco's combined Web sites enabling Tesco employees
and external agencies to quickly and regularly update content without needing
to change the way they normally work.
The first phase of the implementation started with the deployment of Tesco's
consumer grocery business where TeamSite is managing content for grocery applications.
This project included the design of approval workflows and scripting that are
easy to maintain and manipulate and will facilitate the second phase of the
TeamSite implementation. TeamSite workflow will split edited files into a file
for online shopping and a file for off-line shopping. This will save developers
time, reduces the likelihood of errors and speeds up the production lifecycle.
In the second phase, TeamSite will manage the content of Tesco's ISP, Tesco.net
and Tesco.com for corporate and financial information on Tesco. The second implementation
will also incorporate Tesco's non-grocery site.
Tesco is currently using TeamSite in a Microsoft IIS environment with Microsoft
Site Server. TeamSite will allow over 60 people from Tesco as well as remote
users from Tesco's external agencies to provide daily updates and content for
all sites which will be carried out across a number of departments. All users
will be able to test material prior to publishing content which will lead to
greater efficiency and speed by reducing the prior need of a day-to-day maintenance
role.
"We are delighted TeamSite is managing all the content for our online grocery.
Annualized sales in 1999 were 125m making Tesco.com a significant business
for Tesco," said Leon Stoner, project manager/lead Webmaster at Tesco.com. "Our
customers do their normal day-to-day shopping online and seven out of ten top
selling lines are fresh food. This requires a content management solution that
enables our employees to update the site regularly and quickly and TeamSite
has the dynamism that we needed. We could not have done this without the sterling
efforts from the consultants provided by Interwoven."
"Being the UK's largest grocer and the world's most successful e-commerce
grocer, we are thrilled that the TeamSite solution will make it easier for Tesco
to sustain and build on this reputation," said Jan Nordhagen, vice president
of European operations for Interwoven. "TeamSite's scalability will permit quick,
efficient and regular updates to its sites by a large number and variety of
Tesco employees and external agencies, enabling a dynamic Web experience. The
scalability of the TeamSite architecture will also enable Tesco to roll out
multiple Web initiatives across its wide number of online Web properties."
Tesco has 646 stores and
is the largest food retailer in the United Kingdom, with 15.5% of the food market.
In addition Tesco operates: 75 stores in the Republic of Ireland, 45 in Hungary,
